BMC Holdings Group is a vertically-integrated, full-service real estate development and investment firm.
We oversee every project and every investment “from concept to completion.”
Through a network of brokers, referral agents, and local contacts, we evaluate dozens of projects a month. Our proprietary, custom funnel allows us to quickly separate the wheat from the chaff and pursue only the most viable opportunities. If a project clears the initial hurdle, we do our own market analysis and financial modelling while concurrently pursuing financing, joint-venture agreements, and any necessary entitlements.
We engage professional architects and engineers to work alongside experienced contracting firms to design and construct quality buildings all under the strict supervision of our in-house construction management team. We make sure everyone is not only in the same boat, but also rowing in the same direction. Twenty-five years as a Class A general contractor gives us a unique, insiders perspective on construction practices, allowing us to achieve the highest quality and the best long-term value.
The Building Management Co. is a fully licensed real estate brokerage. Our leasing and property management company handles all pre-leasing, leasing, and property management in the same office. As a result, we have our finger on the pulse of the status of every property in our portfolio in real time. We are not waiting for a monthly report to get an update. If there is an issue, we know about it and can respond right away. This level of service allows us to maintain an impressive retention rate, control costs, and keep investor returns high.
Because we personally invest alongside our partners, we are particularly incentivized to manage the investment well. Our strategy is relatively simple: We look for opportunities to acquire, add value, and hold investment properties that yield a strong return on equity. We handle the bookkeeping, file the taxes, and coordinate the reporting. And of course, we send out the distributions.

After working as a self-employed construction contractor through high school and college, Robby went on to complete a bachelor’s degree in business at Mary Washington College. After school Robby worked for real estate developers W.J. Vakos & Co. and Management Services Corp, where he was responsible for commercial leasing, construction & property management. He then rolled up his sleeves along with current partner Ian Wren and purchased Real Property Inc. and Property Management of Virginia. After a period of significant growth, both management companies were sold and The Building Management Company was created. Robby is a Class A general contractor and real estate broker with well over 30 years of experience in real estate development, construction, and management. Robby currently oversees all design and construction activities and is actively involved in generating new business and commercial leasing.
Ian graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts before entering the real estate industry. In 1995 he purchased an interest in a Virginia-based property management firm and subsequently built the operation to over 1,000 units. In 2008 Ian and Robby launched the property management company The Building Management Co. Since then Ian has developed, owned and operated a range of commercial, industrial and multi-tenant properties throughout regional Virginia. The development portfolio now exceeds 150 units of residential space and 165,000 square feet of commercial property. As a Partner in BMC Holdings Group, Ian is responsible for managing the financial risks of the corporation as well as all planning, record keeping and reporting.
Reid holds a Bachelor of Arts from Washington & Lee University and a Masters in Urban Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, School of Architecture. Reid thrives in the multivariable complexities that make each real estate project unique. His ability to conceptualize development opportunities and convert them into viable investment opportunities has meant that, in just over a decade, he has amassed a large and profitable portfolio of multi-tenanted, commercial, multi-family, and industrial properties located throughout Virginia. As a partner with The Building Management Co. and BMC Holdings Group, Reid oversees the property development and analytics activities of the corporations.
